พิธีรำลึก 16 ปี วินาศกรรม 11 กันยายน ที่ทำเนียบขาว และพื้นที่ซึ่งเคยเป็นที่ตั้งของอาคารเวิลด์เทรดเซ็นเตอร์ ที่ตอนนี้เรียกว่า Ground Zero ในมหานครนิวยอร์ก โดยมีการยืนสงบนิ่งเพื่อไว้อาลัยแก่ผู้เสียชีวิตเกือบ 3,000 คน เมื่อเวลา 8.40 น. ซึ่งตรงกับเวลาที่เครื่องบินพาณิชย์ 2 ลำ พุุ่งชนอาคารเวิลด์เทรดเซ็นเตอร์ กระทรวงกลาโหมสหรัฐฯ และทุ่งกว้างในเพนซิลเวเนีย เมื่อเดือนกันยายน พ.ศ. 2544 นับเป็นเหตุก่อการร้ายที่รุนแรงที่สุดที่เคยเกิดขึ้นในดินแดนสหรัฐฯ
